Although the fee seems to be small ($50 per user per year), it is still a significant amount if you have a company of a few hundreds people.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>We had a workaround to <a title=\"How to Get Free Google Apps Standard Account for Single User\" href=\"https:\/\/www.techwalls.com\/register-free-google-apps-standard-account-single-user\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">register the Google Apps Standard account for free<\/a>, however, they allow just 1 user per account and we can&#8217;t be sure Google will keep it free in the future. Therefore, some of us probably are looking for an alternative for Google Apps and Outlook.com is among the best choice.<\/p>\n<p>This post will introduce some easy steps to create and setup your email with custom domain on Outlook.com. Just follow the simple guide.<\/p>\n<h2>1. Sign up for a Microsoft account<\/h2>\n<p>If you haven&#8217;t got a\u00a0Hotmail,\u00a0SkyDrive,\u00a0Xbox LIVE or owned a\u00a0Windows Phone, you will need to create your Microsoft account at\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/signup.live.com\/signup.aspx?lic=1\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">https:\/\/signup.live.com\/signup.aspx?lic=1<\/a><\/p>\n<h2>2. Add domain name<\/h2>\n<p>Go to domain.live.com to add your domain name. Fill in your domain name and remember to choose the option\u00a0<strong>Set up Windows Live Hotmail for my domain<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_3254\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-3254\" style=\"width: 488px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-3254\" title=\"outlook-add-domain-name\" src=\"https:\/\/www.techwalls.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/12\/outlook-add-domain-name.jpg\" alt=\"outlook-add-domain-name\" width=\"488\" height=\"276\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.techwalls.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/12\/outlook-add-domain-name.jpg 488w, https:\/\/www.techwalls.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/12\/outlook-add-domain-name-300x170.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 488px) 100vw, 488px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-3254\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Add Domain Name<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h2>3. Assign Domain Administrator<\/h2>\n<p>In the next step, it requires you to assign a Microsoft ID to administer the domain. Choose\u00a0<strong>Sign in with an existing Windows Live ID<\/strong> and then sign in with the account you signed up in the first step. After that, another page will appear to confirm your settings and accept agreements.<\/p>\n<h2>4. Domain Settings<\/h2>\n<p>In this step, we will need to set up mail and prove domain ownership. You are now in the <strong>Windows Live Admin Center<\/strong>, the screen will show you exactly what you need to do. For example, in my case, I need to\u00a0create a MX record through my hosting&#8217;s CPanel to set up mail and then prove domain ownership by adding a TXT record or a MX record. If your hosting service uses CPanel, you can also create your\u00a0<strong>MX<\/strong>\u00a0records with the icon <strong>MX Entry<\/strong> in <strong>Mail<\/strong> section. To add\u00a0TXT records, just go to the icon <strong>Advanced DNS Zone Editor<\/strong> under <strong>Domains<\/strong> section.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-3255\" title=\"outlook-domain-settings\" src=\"https:\/\/www.techwalls.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/12\/outlook-domain-settings.jpg\" alt=\"outlook-domain-settings\" width=\"600\" height=\"494\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.techwalls.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/12\/outlook-domain-settings.jpg 600w, https:\/\/www.techwalls.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/12\/outlook-domain-settings-300x247.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>On the left sidebar of Windows Live Admin Center, you can also go to the tab <strong>Custom Address<\/strong> to set up your subdomain for email service. For instance, I can use the subdomain mail.techwalls.com to access my mail and don&#8217;t need to go to Outlook.com anymore. You will just need to add your sub-domain in this section and it will show you configurations. Then go to your hosting service to create\u00a0a CNAME record. You can add a CNAME record in CPanel by going to\u00a0<strong>Simple DNS Zone Editor<\/strong> in <strong>Domains<\/strong> section.<\/p>\n<h2>5. Create member accounts<\/h2>\n<p>Now you can see the new tab\u00a0<strong>Member accounts<\/strong>\u00a0appear on the left sidebar. Go to this tab to start adding member accounts with your custom domain. At the moment, Outlook allows up to 500 accounts for a domain.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_3256\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-3256\" style=\"width: 488px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-3256\" title=\"outlook-create-member-accounts\" src=\"https:\/\/www.techwalls.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/12\/outlook-create-member-accounts.jpg\" alt=\"outlook-create-member-accounts\" width=\"488\" height=\"196\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.techwalls.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/12\/outlook-create-member-accounts.jpg 488w, https:\/\/www.techwalls.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/12\/outlook-create-member-accounts-300x120.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 488px) 100vw, 488px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-3256\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Add member accounts<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Almost done. Now you just wait for the DNS records updated. After a few hours, you can start accessing your mails though <a rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" href=\"http:\/\/mail.live.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">http:\/\/mail.live.com\/<\/a> or your sub-domain.
